Flooding in July

This has been one crazy summer for rain. It never stops and when it does rain, its usually more then an inch, at least it seems that way. Last Wednesday we received over 4.5 inches of rain. It was incredible. The river came out of its banks a little, a few drops of water came in our window and a good chunk of our newly laid wood chips washed away. We joked that it was a good thing we don't get 4 inches of rain very often. Who knew that 9 days later we would receive another 4.5 inches of rain (not to mention about the 1.5 that fell on Tuesday). So in just over a week that over 10 inches, OF RAIN! You can only imagine what our wood chips looks like. Sigh, I knew we should have done rock!! These pictures were taken this morning and the river hasn't budged since then.

I have no idea how our house is not flooded. Today I have watched as 4 of our neighbors have worked feverishly to keep that water from overtaking the basement of their house. Sump pumps, huge hoses and the humming of generators can all be seen and heard outside tonight. I feel very blessed and very lucky that we are not joining them in that fight. However, I don't think we are out of the woods just yet. More rain is forecasted, the river is just a mere feet from our house and the ground is unbelievably saturated. We can only pray that we will continue to stay dry and that our only real problem is our floating wood chips. Meanwhile, we visited Falls Park tonight. It was incredible!

The bike path is definitely closed.
Please keep us in your prayers.

It won't be long

Look whose on his feet.

It won't be long now.

A Camping We Will Go

We went camping this weekend. Our trip was postponed a week because last Saturday it was way to hot and humid to even have fun. So we rescheduled and as Friday approached so did warnings of heavy rain, strong winds and hail. When I mentioned this to Trevor his only response was, "We'll just bring a tarp." Okay then. This should be fun.

Carson helped daddy set up the tents.

And so did Bennett.

Declan was, well, being Delcan.

I don't have any pictures but we grilled hot dogs, made smores, went for a walk and played around. I had the pleasure of sleeping in a tent with just Bennett. I forgot his jammies so I threw him on the air mattress with me. He slept through the whole storm but he tossed and turned and fell off the mattress a few times. Needless to say, we didn't sleep well. But we survived the storm with only a little water in the tent. It was much less dramatic then it looked.

And before 7am this one

and this one were ready for the day. I can't vouch for anyone else though.

We made breakfast which may have consisted of a donut hole or two.

We went hiking.

Lookout Tower.

And in a few weeks we are doing it all over again.
I can't wait!!

Who cut his hair?

For a kid who didn't want one he ended up being pretty excited about it.

The Best Part

Life is pretty easy when your nine months old and crawling around a beach.

There is no need to worry when you look like this.

Because you have two big brothers,

who will happily wash you off.

You did what?

Once upon a time when I was a small child my dad had a hair brain idea to dress me up like a boy. I can remember the night so clearly. After I had a bath my dad got out a button up shirt, buttoned it to the top and carefully combed my hair like a boy.

That sounds so odd when I type it out. What kind of family does that?
Apparently mine. Hey, don't judge! It was actually funny and a great memory to look back on. And its kind of scary how much I look like a boy in this picture.

Or how much I look just like Carson, with red hair.

So tonight in the bathtub when I was washing Declan's hair and ringing it out there is no way I had the same idea.

Or maybe I did. And he thought it was hilarious and Trevor just rolled his eyes!
Next time I'll find a girl shirt for him and maybe a curling iron.
Just kidding!

Speaking of fun hairdos.

Sunscreen works as a fun hair product.

My Green Bucket

Just playing

with my

green

bucket.
And maybe eating the sand inside.

Summer Soccer

The boys started soccer last week.

This year Declan is old enough to take a stab at it.

I think he enjoyed it and so did daddy.

Carson is all by himself in a different class. They do 30 minutes of skills and 30 minutes of an actual game.

I'm fairly certain he was wore out at the end. And I think its the first time I've seen him so exhausted. It didn't help that it was really humid either.

Harley, Harley, Harley

We went to a Harley Parade last week.

In a 38 minute parade we saw approximately 2500 Harleys.

It was LOUD.

Bennett fell asleep. Somehow.

And then when he woke up he was a bit confused by where we were.

But he waved his flag proudly.
