Summer

We are less then a month from school starting and I'm choosing to live in denial about it. People keep telling me that I'll be ready for it to start, that the routine will be good and it will finally get these kids (at least some of them) out of my hair for a good chunk of the day. Maybe that will be true as we get closer but right now I don't want it to start, I don't want the school routine to kick into gear and (at least at the moment) I don't want my kids out of my hair. Clearly I've lost my mind.

We've been enjoying our days and they've been busy. Carson doesn't nap anymore and if I can get him to lay down or rest for 30 minutes a day I'm lucky. He's not the greatest independent player so when he is awake he's busy having me help him with a project or showing me his latest Lego creation or asking me a million questions. Some days I want to pull out my hair but many times I've tried to really enjoy him because when school starts he'll be gone for most of the day and that quiet time we've been enjoying this summer will be gone.

He's growing like a weed too. Just since summer started he's gone from being 1/4 of an inch too short to ride the water slide to being 1/2 above the height minimum. And we can't keep him off it. He's swimming like a fish, he learned to ride his bike and we're busy learning to tie our shoes before 1st grade officially starts. 1st grade? I don't know how that happened.

It's been hot. Really hot! And humid. Mother Nature must have never been pregnant otherwise she wouldn't subject me to this sweaty gross weather. We've spent 6 of the last 7 days at the pool, the lake, running through the sprinkler or having water fights with our friends. Maybe one of these crazy boys will become a swimmer like their mommy.

I was at the doctor yesterday. The nurse went through my pre-op directions with me. While I was listening to her tell me "the rules" I kept wondering why she was telling me this information so soon. Then I realized that this baby will be here in just 6 weeks and 5 days from now. Yowza. We have done nothing to get ready for it. Nothing. Oh I got a diaper bag, if that counts. I think it does because after 3 kids I needed a cuter, more functional bag. So these next 6 weeks will go fast as we do some things around here to get ready for the baby.

So, if I'm not updating this then you can assume we're swimming, wrestling, getting ready for school. going to the movies, washing baby clothes, making a toddler bed for Bennett, trying to enjoy our last days as a family of five, grilling, trying not to sweat to death, having a BBQ, riding our bikes, playing at the playground and trying to soak up as much of summer as we can because these days are short and fast and the kids just keep growing.

A Day at the Beach

I had 725 pictures on my camera when we came home from our 4th of July weekend. That must mean 1. We were busy 2. We had a lot of fun and 3. thank God for digital. Luckily for me, and our hard drive, I narrowed it down to 111. Not bad but still a little nuts. So I'll do this in sections and no I'm not posting all 111. Are you nuts?

On Saturday we went to the beach. It was windy. It was warm. And it was fun.

Carson is just like me. He's not so sure of the lake bottom and chose to wear his Crocs for the first few minutes.

Declan is like his dad. Jumped right in....once he got used to the temperature.

Even Bennett jumped in.

Daddy and the big boys made a sand castle.

And we played

and played

and threw mud

and giggled

and sunbathed

until we got in the car and passed out....on grandma.

It was hot

Hot, Humid and Windy.
That describes our day yesterday.

So we broke out our suits, the baby pool and our sprinkler.

There is no better way

to cool off

then by running (or jumping)

through the sprinkler

for hours

and hours.
Then we came in, tried to make dinner, lost power AGAIN, ditched our dinner plans and went out to eat. I think we'll subtract our dinner costs from our Xcel bill.

A day at the beach

We hit a local lake yesterday for the first time. Now I'm kicking myself for not going there sooner. The boys had a blast at the beach.

Even Miss Emily joined us for a swim. She wanted nothing to do with playing fetch but she did swim for awhile.

Reason #32 why my husband is the best....

He knows I can't stand swimming in lakes so he gladly, and without complaining, takes the boys for me while I sit on the side taking pictures(being 53 weeks pregnant may also have something to do with it). I need a pool where I can see the bottom and not feel any weeds. Luckily, it looks like both boys have been given the lake swimming gene from my wonderful husband!

And with 3 boys in the water a splash party soon ensues.

And I think...

the little boys may have won!

Declan has no worries about getting dirty. He'll sit right in the sand with his wet suit.

Or roll around in it all wet.

Or apparently stick his head in it.

Carson on the other hand wants nothing to do with being dirty....EVER.

Here he is showing off just how dirty he let his hands get....which in case you can see is mostly just a little dusty.

One messy. One clean. Both beach lovers!

A little of this a little of that.

Summer is winding down in our house. Not only are the temperatures a little cooler but Carson starts preschool next Monday already. We dropped off all his supplies last night and saw his teachers, he'll actually have the same ones as last year and his best friend Andrew is in his class again so he's pretty excited. So we've been trying to enjoy as much of summer as we can. Hard to believe that this time next year my little boy will be jetting off to kindergarten!

The other day we painted out on the deck. Why I haven't thought of this sooner I'll never know. They had a blast and it didn't matter is some got on the deck.

I think the rock holding Declan's paper down even got a paint treatment. Now if only we could keep doing this activity outside in the dead of winter.

Carson is almost done with soccer. That's his little butt in the air trying to move his soccer ball with his knee or some other random body part that coach has called out. He's had a blast doing it and we've had fun watching him.

Declan and I usually sit on the sidelines watching. This time he even brought his camera to snap some pictures. We tried to convince him that he could play soccer if he wore big boy underwear but apparently that wasn't enough to change his mind.

Have I mentioned he can be stubborn?
And he'll be wearing diapers to kindergarten?

We've also been trying to enjoy as much pool time as we can. Luckily last week it was HOT so we were able to get some lounging in.

And work on our tan!

I even soaked my feet a few days. I'm chugging along at 33 weeks today. However, yesterday at the doctor I measured a nice 40. This may explain my miserableness (is that even a word?) or the look on people's face when I tell them how much farther I have. Yes I'm big, no there is not twins and no I'm not wrong on my dates....I need those 3 statements made into a shirt.

Do you sense some bitterness in my tone? ;-)

Trevor told me the next 6 weeks would go fast. Hmmm, somehow I think if HE was carrying around this baby toddler in his tummy he'd feel a little different! But alas, I'm praying for patience and strength and some sort of peace of mind that this will end someday. As a bonus I do get another ultrasound in 2 weeks to check the babies size and my fluid level. It seems the little peanut is swimming around in a little extra water but that doesn't seem to be stopping him or her from growing like a weed!!

Spray Park

This morning we visited the spray park in town. Of course one must always have their "unda wadder googles" and dives sticks at the spray park. You know for all that "unda wadder" swimming that goes on there.
